About the Book

Young Santu and his uncle Raja Roychoudhary, better known as Kakababu, accidentally land in a terrific adventure in Africa this time. They are the guests of a business group, on their way to a hotel in the jungle, but things start going wrong from the very beginning. They receive death threats and survive an attempt on their lives.

Little do they realize that things are about to get much worse. The hotel is not at all what it seems, and in the jungle, there is danger at every step. Santu and Kakababu are forced to confront everything from the mysteries of past crimes to ruthless poachers and mercenaries, sinister hotel staff to the wilderness of Africa, its fearsome beasts, and its fierce tribesmen . . .

Who is a friend? Who is a foe? What crimes are being committed, by whom, and why? What is it that the villains are after, in a world-famous game reserve which has no other riches than its fabulous wildlife? Can the duo find out? Can they even survive? About the Author

Sunil Gangopadhyay (1934–2012), a renowned Bengali litterateur whose opus comprises nearly 300 literary works across many genres. A poet, novelist, short-story writer, playwright, essayist, scriptwriter and journalist, he shot into fame as the founder-editor of the poetry magazine Krittibas (1953), which was responsible for charting revolutionary and daring new course in Bengali poetry.

Gangopadhyay’s iconic stories of the investigator duo Kakababu and his nephew Santu for young adults have triggered the imagination of generations of readers for over forty years. Bhoyonkor Sundor (The Dreadful Beauty), Sabuj Dwiper Raja (King of the Verdant Island), Paharchuray Atonko (Terror on the Mountaintop), and Jongoler Moddhe Ekta Hotel (A Hotel in the Jungle) are among the best loved of the thirty-nine adventures that he wrote.

 

About the Translator

Born in 1968, Tridiv Chowdhury, after a varied career, found his calling in writing. His first novel, River of Hurt, was published by Cool Grove Press of New York in 2014. Currently, he is working on his second historical novel set in medieval Assam. Before A Hotel in the Jungle, he has also translated another Kakababu–Santu adventure for young adults, King of the Verdant Island.
